Support Group for Patients and Families with Celiac Disease and Diabetes
Joslin’s Celiac Group Programs are offered in the spring and the fall for children and teen with diabetes and celiac disease and their families. This group covers topics such as healthy nutrition, cooking and recipe-sharing, school issues, and coping with the stress of living with celiac disease and diabetes.
The Celiac Group Program is lead by a dietitian with expertise in diabetes and gastrointestinal nutrition, a pediatric diabetes medical specialist, as well as a family support specialist. Adolescent patients are welcome to join the support group discussion.
There is also a separate play group lead by a certified child life specialist for pre-school and school-age children. The children’s portion of the group offers activities such as preparing fun gluten-free snacks.
